"My relationship with Maggie Smith; well, she got me the job at Potter, practically. So for anyone who doesn’t know that story, I basically owe everything to Maggie Smith, because I worked with her on David Copperfield and then she came on to Potter as McGonagall and said to the director: "You need to audition this boy." So I kind of owe her everything, so to Maggie I just say my fairy grandmother." - Daniel Radcliffe

My thoughts on triggers:

From u/panx/ :

The frustrating thing is they delegitimize people with actual mental trauma.

You’re a PTSD-stricken soldier who watched his friends die? Yeah, I can see why fireworks make you uncomfortable.

Rape survivor sent into horrific flashbacks by rape jokes? No one who isn’t a complete asshole will blame you.

But if you’re a grown-ass woman convinced she’s part deer and shuts down completely at the sight of venison (this is real thing from a real Tumblr), you need to seek help, toughen the fuck up or both.

It’s almost like these trigger-happy (eh, eh, eh?) people see the compassion and attention offered toward people with real mental trauma and want in on the action.

For fuck’s sake, there are actual Tumblr templates with a “triggers” field, as though you’re expected to have them if you’re part of the community.

u/N8theG8:

It’s a little irritating that they’ve diluted the word so much that people who have actual triggers don’t get taken seriously.

u/soccergirl13:

There are some people with actual, diagnosed PTSD who can be triggered by certain things, but if you need a trigger warning for something like food or John Green, (not even kidding, I once saw a Tumblr post with tw: John Green) then I’m not going to take you seriously.

tl;dr: Triggers are actual things that happen to people. There is no such thing as “a right not be offended”. That’s just part of life and demeaning triggers through the extrapolated way Tumblr uses them is diluting the actual seriousness to a trigger.
